If the New York Yankees don’t make the playoffs for the third straight season, should Joe Girardi be fired? The Yankees not winning a World Series is always a failure for the organization and the fans. So imagine how it feels for them to not even make the playoffs.
In most sports the person to blame for the team not doing well is the coach or the manager. Baseball is no different because all the attention is focused on the manager and the decision he makes with his lineup and his bullpen.
In New York winning is everything and mediocrity does not sit well with the fans. Girardi has not had easy shoes to fill-in when he took this job in October of 2007. He had to be the successor to Joe Torre and all of his greatness.
Yankee fans were spoiled during Torre’s tenure as manager. Torre led them to four World Series titles and six appearances.
Girardi has not lived up to those high expectations that were set by Torre. By the Yankees standards of winning he has been quite below them.
Will he be on the hot seat if the Yankees do not make the playoffs and possibly out of the first round? In New York nothing is certain as a coach of a team especially the city’s most prized team.
If George Steinbrenner were still alive there is a good chance that Girardi will definitely be fired if the Yankees miss out on the playoffs. It’s not like the Yankees aren’t talented but sometimes it might require new management for a team to get going.
There is a very good chance that the Yankees might look to get rid of Girardi at the end of the season if they don’t make the playoffs.
